öskrandi ís / dauður ís
what does a dying glacier sound like? every crack, drip, and groan tells a story of disappearance. developed during my artist residency in iceland, »öskrandi ís / dauður ís« translates glacial change into sound, photography, and physical form. combining field recordings, climate data sonification, and experimental record-making, the project explores how design can make an otherwise distant and gradual process tangible and emotionally resonant. in collaboration with dutch sound artist baz laarakkers, »öskrandi ís« (eng.: screaming ice) gives voice to the glacier through a record conceptually (and actually!) made from glacial ice, »dauður ís« (eng.: dead / stagnant ice) offers a glimpse into a speculative future – a monument to silence … the project is accompanied by analog photography and a printed booklet. i’m currently developing prototypes for the record sleeve, selecting paper for the final print and preparing the exhibition vernissage and record release.
